Vertiv Introduces New Direct Expansion Cooling Unit To Reduce Carbon Footprint

Vertiv, an international supplier of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has launched the highly efficient Vertiv™ Liebert® PDX-PAM direct expansion perimeter units with low global warming potential (GWP) and non-flammable R513A refrigerant. The system, which is currently available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), is designed to use an environmentally friendly refrigerant, allowing for enhanced efficiency, dependability and maximum installation flexibility.

Liebert® PDX-PAM enables data centre owners to comply with the EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573 while also achieving their pressing environmental objectives. When compared to standard R410A, the non-flammable R513A refrigerant reduces GWP by up to 70% while maintaining safety and reliability. No additional safety equipment are required, as the situation with units employing flammable refrigerants, resulting in lower installation costs and CAPEX.

Liebert PDX-PAM is available in power ratings that vary from 10 kW to 80 kW, with a wide range of airflow configurations, choices and accessories, making it easily adaptable to a variety of installation requirements, including small to medium data centres, edge computing applications, UPS and battery rooms. Depending on the exact system arrangement, a wide range of cooling solutions are available when used with Liebert PDX-PAM devices for external heat rejection management.

Vertiv is at the forefront of innovation and technology with Liebert® PDX-PAM, a low-GWP, non-flammable R513A refrigerant solution that includes inverter-driven wireless motor compressors, a staged coil design with an innovative patent-pending filter, electronic expansion valves and cutting-edge electronically commutated (EC) fans as standard features. The Vertiv™ Liebert® iCOM™ controller synchronises all components, allowing for comprehensive performance modulation. This allows the Liebert® PDX-PAM unit to respond to changing operating circumstances and heat loads in an efficient and reliable manner.

The full ongoing control capability substantially decreases annual power consumption, resulting in a more cost-effective solution. This is due to improved part load efficiency and precise monitoring of the machine's operation, which facilitates performance tracking and more timely and effective maintenance, creating opportunities for predictive maintenance.
