Dubai is to host a Middle East North Africa transport exhibition this month, organized by the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority, it was announced on Wednesday.

The event, officially named the UITP MENA Transport Congress and Exhibition 2016, will take place from April 25-27, according to an official statement.

Over 600 participants and 3,000 visitors hailing from 29 countries are scheduled to participate in the event.

The Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, said the theme of the event will be: Urban Mobility: Think Big, Act Smart.

“This is one of the major events in the public transport industry as it brings transport officials, policy makers, legislators, consultants, operators and manufactures all under one roof to discuss visionary solutions for public transport issues,” Al Tayer said in a statement.

The event is set to attract high-profile transport industry executives.

The event comes as experts say the region is in dire need for providing integrated mass transit systems to ease the mobility of city inhabitants, amid rising populations.

“Over three days, the Congress will discuss a plethora of topics such as the status of public transport in growing cities, managing and funding of public transport, transport & the use of energy, school transport, and the importance of innovation and creativity in providing public transport,” Al Tayer said.
