Infrastructure projects with a projected value of $64m (AED235m) have been approved by the Abu Dhabi Executive Committee at the Executive Council.

Among the approved projects is the development of the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road from the Falah intersection to the Qasr Al Bahr intersection, at an overall cost of $30m (AED109m).

The development will include works within the Sheikh Zayed tunnel and several improvements to intersections, with the aim of easing traffic, facilitating transport in the city, and increasing the efficiency of Abu Dhabi's road network to keep up with urban development.

Headed by chairman, Jassim Mohammad Buatabah Al Zaabi, the executive committee also approved a project that will link power generated by the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant to the emirate’s existing power grid at a cost of $17m (AED63m).

Once completed, the project will reportedly guarantee continuity of electricity supply and feature four 400V overhead transmission lines at the Barakah plant, which will be connected to the two main stations in Madinat Zayed and Bab 2. These will link and supply the Abu Dhabi General Transport Company network and control centre through the transmission of 5,600MW from the overall power generated at the station.

The committee also approved the development of an electricity distribution network in Ghayathi and Jebel Dhanna in Al Dhafra, at a projected cost of $11.3m (AED41.5m). It will include the supply and installation of electric cables over 89km to reach the optimal use of power resources and reinforce sustainable power efficiency in new housing units in both areas.

In addition, the committee endorsed a $6m (AED22m) operation and maintenance project involving the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The project will include the cultivation of green spaces and the installation of aesthetic structures, decorative items, fountains, lighting, and other relevant service facilities that can help preserve the city’s general appearance and cultural identity.
