Solar Energy to Generate 75 Per Cent of Dubai's Power By 2050

The CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) on the last day of the World Government Summit announced plans for Dubai to be powered 75 per cent through solar energy by the year 2050.

Last year, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

Dubai’s aim is to generate 7 per cent of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25 per cent by 2030 and 75 per cent by 2050.

The World Government Summit kicked off at the Madinat Jumeirah, bringing together some of the globe’s top thinkers and decision makers, as well as a few celebrity speakers.

The three-day event has been described as the largest annual government gathering in the world.

Across the summit several other projects have also been including the launch of the Global Happiness Coalition, an initiative investing in the happiness, security, peace and co-existence between the UAE and five other countries, and the testing of Dubai’s driverless taxis.
