Global shipyard ends year on high note


DUBAI - A high-level naval delegation led by Commodore Shaikh Saeed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Commander, UAE Navy, has visited the Dubai Maritime City and Drydocks World’s facilities in Dubai, which has witnessed a huge success in 2010.

The delegation was received and accompanied on a familiarisation tour of the Dubai Maritime City and state-of-the-art ship lift facility, by Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman, Drydocks World and Maritime World.

Commodore Shaikh Saeed expressed keen interest in enhancing the relations between the UAE Navy and the Drydocks World, and in learning more about the various marine operations, types of services offered and in ship lift operations at the Dubai Maritime City yard, which comprises of two synchrolifts of 3,000 tonnes and 6,000 tonnes capacity each and are among the most sophisticated in the region.

Drydocks World ship-lift facility in Dubai Maritime City has marked a year of high productivity, registering an increase of 54 per cent in the number of vessels repaired.

Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman, Drydocks World and Maritime World, said: “We are honoured by this visit and pleased with the deepening ties between the UAE Navy and Drydocks World, and we look forward to further enhancing our mutual relations. We are ?also proud of the success we achieved during 2010.”

Its services icover anchor handling tugs, diving support vessels, tankers, offshore supply vessels, bulk carriers, landing crafts (UAE Navy), tugs and barges.

The Industrial Precinct of Dubai Maritime City has become a remarkable reality – repairing, maintaining and building all kinds of ships and yachts, and offering customers access to a variety of expert maritime services providers.
