The largest international trade exhibition on Multi-Sector Products, Equipment and Machinery in East Africa, the 2ndEthiopia International Trade Exhibition, is recognized as the biggest industry event in the region. The 2019 edition features companies from over 31 countries who are vying for a space in one of Africa’s largest and the fastest growing market.
Member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council are among the most prominent with the United Arab Emirates sponsoring the largest contingent of companies and representatives at the event. The pavilion is being supported by the Ministry of Economy, UAE and consists of about 35 companies. This is closely followed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain. For the UAE and other Gulf countries, a short-term return on investments for state and private firms is an economic imperative. The exhibition itself is an important trade development platform that focuses on nurturing key business relationships between the network of distributors and importers from the host region and international companies from around the world who would like to expand the network. The high levels of interest from the companies participating at the event are an indicator that the economic interests of the two countries are highly complementary.

Ethiopia is riding high on an infrastructure boom, which includes a number of power projects that is expected to boost capacity to meet current domestic needs, is in dire need of private and foreign investment. The privatization of telecom companies and Ethiopia's national airline as well as other growing industries present significant opportunities for Emirati private investors and national companies that are looking for more international investment opportunities as fiscal budgets shrink in the Gulf. With the state still controlling the economy significantly, UAE enjoys a familiar economic environment in which to invest.
