Dubai's Free Zone - A food and agricultural trade hub


Jebel Ali Free Zone, Jafza, still holds the title of the most favored harbor for trade in food and agricultural commodities. The Free Zone has reported an increase in the trade growth by 24 % in 2019 and a 7% increase in the customer base. The Free Zone is a vast food and agriculture cluster spreading over 1.57 million square meters with the participation of more than 550 companies from across 70 countries.

The main directive is towards the needs of the citizens and residents and are working in maintaining the substantial supply of food and also trying to facilitate trade . The economy has ensured a swift recovery in business continuity post COVID-19". CEO and MD, Mohammed Al Muallem, of DP World, UAE Region and CEO of Jafza, commented.

Emphasizing on Dubai being a portal for global trade. He also stated that in 6 months of 2020, Emirate's export in food trade has reached 9 million tonnes, which is 32 billion AED while Dubai in their food import attained 22 billion AED.

With the pandemic standing in the way of investments, Dubai Trade has introduced few smart services for investors and business owners. The "E-Delivery Order" allows an ease in handling the import processes for the supply chain stakeholders and ZADI, a consolidated food import podium, to aid with the import and re-export of food shipments all through the Dubai ports. These are online services to downplay the role of personal visits or for manual transactions.

With Jafza, many businesses of food and agricultural can bypass advanced packaging solutions and take advantage of the pre-built warehouses for high quality storage.
