Swiss Consul General Reviews DEWA's Work On Sustainability

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has recently received HE Frank Eggmann, Consul General of Switzerland to Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al Tayer received the Swiss Consul General and sketched DEWA’s pioneering and innovative projects and initiatives to attain the vision of the wise leadership, which is the roadmap for DEWA’s determined initiatives and development projects for sustainable development. This supports DEWA’s vision to grow into a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation.

Al Tayer spoke about the prominence of growing cooperation, and how Swiss energy and water companies can donate to projects in Dubai. He also deliberated on the need to share best practices, experiences, and expertise in energy, water, and sustainability, to further develop these areas for mutual benefit.

Al Tayer noted that DEWA at present has an installed capacity of 11,700 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 470 million gallons of water per day. This chains the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. To attain this, DEWA launched numerous renewable programmes and initiatives, together with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world. Using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, it will have a capacity of 5,000MW by 2030.

Al Tayer further added that DEWA has greatly attracted investments totalling around AED 40 billion through the IPP model, which reinforces public-private partnerships. Through this model, DEWA established the lowest global solar power prices 5 times in a row, making Dubai a global yardstick for them.

Frank Eggmann communicated his interest in cooperating with DEWA on its pioneering projects in clean and renewable energy and water. He acclaimed DEWA’s labours in promoting green economy, and commended the services DEWA offers to Dubai based Swiss companies.
