His Highness Dr. Sheik Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah inaugurated the new 26-km Kalba route. At the inaugural ceremony, the Sharjah Ruler unveiled a memorial plaque to mark the opening of the road from Wadi Al Hilou to The Flag Square in Kalba.

The road was constructed at a cost of USD 272 million and is said to be one of the most important construction, utility and tourism projects undertaken by the Emirate. The road will help to grow the city of Kalba in a way that suits the residents and tourists of the city and decreases travel time between Sharjah and Kalba from 90 minutes to 60 minutes, according to the WAM report.

The Kalba Road network comprises of a 12.5 km long Wadi Al Hilou Road consisting of three intersections, 10 intersections, while the 8.5 km long Wadi Madiq Road comprises of a 450 m two-lane mountain tunnel, five intersections and one intersection.

In addition, Dr. Sheik Sultan has reviewed a variety of construction projects that have been graded as critical or tourist-oriented in Kalba. He also visited many projects on both sides of Kalba Lane, including green spaces forming hanging gardens, in addition to the 2-km-long Yahar Lagoon scheme.

Subsequently, the Kalba Corniche scheme, which stretches over 9.5 km, was inspected and equipped with all amenities and facilities, including a range of restaurants, stores, leisure facilities, green parks, playgrounds for children and other playgrounds for adults. The scheme involves 2,200 parking spaces in addition to 85 parking spaces for people with disabilities, 14-foot routes, a park, beaches and an 8 km- long garden.
