Dubai Chamber to support UAE medical research with donation of AED 750,000

On behalf of the private sector, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced its donation of AED 750,000 to the Al Jalila Foundation, which will finance medical research in the UAE.

The grant, which is allocated to medical research related to Covid-19, cancer, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, obesity and mental health, is in line with the efforts of the Dubai Chamber to encourage an innovation ecosystem in the UAE and to support the development of medical science as a key field that is expected to drive the potential economic and social growth of the country.

H.E. Hamad Buamim, President & CEO of Dubai Chamber, said the step underlines the importance that the UAE attaches to medical research and technology, an area that has become an investment driver at a time when the global community is reacting to Covid-19's extraordinary challenges, while many nations are making strides in creating potential vaccines.

“We are proud to promote the development of medical science that will lead to the growth of the UAE, improve health preparedness, create a future-ready economy that can address emerging demands and evolving social needs in a post-pandemic environment,” said H.E. Buamim.

He noted that the recent opening of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Medical Research Institute, the first autonomous multi-disciplinary biomedical research centre in the UAE, illustrates the deep dedication of the country's wise leadership to promote scientific research that will solve public health issues and play a major role in defining the next 50 years of national vision and strategy.

Dr Abdulkareem Al Olama, CEO of the Al Jalila Foundation, speaking on the donation, said: "As the UAE looks ahead to the next 50 years, we are inspired by the great strides we are making as a nation in medical innovation and the advancement of science and research." The Al Jalila Foundation strives to be a leader in the region's biomedical science, and we are deeply grateful to the Dubai Chamber for their kindness and assistance in helping us achieve our goals."

“Medical science funding is vital to the survival and viability of decades to come. The climate has changed drastically and as we move through this crucial process, we focus on research and philanthropy to work together to save lives and we are proud to see the name of the Dubai Chamber on the donor appreciation wall of Bassmat Rashid Bin Saaed. Today, more than ever, we rely on scientists and physicians to work together and establish improved medical testing, care, and better understanding of human diseases, particularly viral diseases.” Dr. Al Olama added.

Under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the Al Jalila Foundation encourages medical education and science by investing in the medical care capacities of the UAE; offers scholarships to nurture a home-grown generation of medical professionals; and funds groundbreaking research that addresses the region's prevalent health challenges.
