The first practical 3D-printed house constructed by Sharjah

Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park) has declared that the first completely functional 3D-printed villa in the Middle East – called Sharjah 24 – has been built in its premises.

It claimed that Sharjah 24, which was designed according to an Arabic design, was completed in two weeks.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SRTI Park comments: "We are seeking to develop this technology in Sharjah and to build more houses, to promote the economy and competitiveness of the Emirates, in addition to enabling real partnerships in universities, the economy and the private sector." "We are aiming for a strong commitment to development in Sharjah."

Al Mahmoudi also confirmed that a broad research programme between various universities is part of the project. He clarified that the American University of Sharjah worked on the project, in collaboration with the private sector and some foreign universities in Finland, and research institutions in the Netherlands and other countries, collaborated for the project.

The technology partner involved in construction was CyBe Construction, located in the Netherlands. It offered training as well as provided the tools to support the construction, and conducted research at the university.

According to last year's announcement, by launching the 3D Printing programme, CyBe Construction claimed that SRTI Park provides a proactive and welcoming atmosphere for potential research and experimentation on building innovations and technology for the fourth generation.

"The aim of this research project is to strengthen the position of the Emirate as a centre for research and innovation in the world," concluded Al Mahmoudi.
