Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri discussed their economic cooperation and ways of strengthening them with Maha Ali, Jordan's Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, to serve the mutual interests of their countries and peoples. They also exchanged views of mutual concern on a number of issues and on regional and international economic issues.

Al Marri and Ali discussed ways to develop frameworks for advancing their economic partnership during the economic recovery and post-COVID-19 periods during the remote meeting.

They also explored ways of growing their trade interaction, encouraging joint investment and encouraging more Emirati and Jordanian companies to explore the opportunities available in both countries with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as developing sustainable potential collaborations, especially in agriculture, industry and food products.

Al Marri also highlighted key trade metrics between the two nations, noting that their combined foreign trade non-oil exchange amounted to AED10.4 billion in 2019, an improvement of 10.6 per cent relative to 2018, although re-exports from the UAE to Jordan rose by 19 per cent, according to provisional estimates for 2020. In comparison, COVID-19 based goods traded between the two countries have seen substantial growth, with prescription trade accounting for 10%, while food products have increased by 12%.

He presented the UAE's efforts to boost its economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the country is adopting a ground-breaking and ambitious strategy that involves a range of versatile measures aimed at improving recovery and economic advancement, as well as establishing a sustainable development approach to the post-COVID-19 economy.

He also encouraged the collaboration of the UAE with Jordan in some of the measures contained in the strategy to pursue their common goals, while inviting Jordanian businesses to take advantage of the country's incentives and exciting prospects.

Ali emphasised the importance of cultivating collaboration in priority sectors and noted the Jordanian Government's willingness to share skills in the fields of e-commerce and the digital economy in order to benefit from the leading experience of the UAE in these areas. She also emphasised the importance of briefing Emirati investors on the possibilities open in Jordan.
