Denmark backs the UAE's Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate Change.

According to a top Danish diplomat, Denmark has thrown its support behind a combined climate plan by the UAE.

"Denmark is happy to support the United Arab Emirates' Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate initiative, as well as several others," said Franz-Michael S. Mellbin, Danish Ambassador to the UAE and Qatar (WAM).

The UAE announced the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) during President Biden's Leaders Summit on Climate at the start of the fiscal year 2021, with cooperation from the United Kingdom, Brazil, Denmark, Israel, Singapore, Australia, and Uruguay. To combat climate change, it aspires to boost and accelerate global agricultural innovation and research and development (R&D) during the next five years.

Agriculture is a crucial industry for the world, according to the Danish envoy, and more innovation is needed to successfully balance the complex nexus of climate change, food security, and sustainability.

"As the world's population grows, we're becoming more reliant on perilous food production as the climate issue threatens long-standing agricultural techniques. To increase food security, keep jobs in the agricultural sector, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, new climate technology and techniques are urgently needed "Melbin clarified.

Denmark has ambitious objectives for its agriculture sector, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by 0.5 million tonnes. This will be accomplished by enhancing growing strategies such as more frequent manure leaching, he said.

The government is also investing in new technologies like pyrolysis and grass biorefining, which have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 5 million tonnes. "Overall, we believe that the shift to climate-smart agriculture will help the sector in the long run," said the ambassador.

"We look forward to working with our allies to progress the AIM for Climate project, and we hope that more nations will join the effort in the run-up to COP26 in Glasgow," the ambassador said.

As previously stated, AIM for Climate will address the most pressing issues relating to agriculture and climate change, such as emissions, food security, and water security. As the world's population grows, advances in efficient, productive agricultural techniques can lessen the sector's environmental consequences, increase the availability of healthy food, and provide new economic possibilities, skills, Jobs and knowledge.
