The formation of a new collaboration to deal with global plastic recycling

Emeraude International SAS, located in Paris, has undertaken a long-term strategic investment in DGrade, a one-of-a-kind UAE-based firm that controls the entire cycle from collecting and recycling plastic bottles to producing sustainable clothes and plastic flake for consumer packaging. The cooperation will help Emeraude enter the recycled plastic market by expanding DGrade's global reach.

Emeraude Green, Emeraude's legal company and brand, focuses on avoiding and controlling plastic pollution on a worldwide scale, with local presence in both developed and developing areas where we operate, such as Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Its key strategies are to raise awareness, use recycled materials, and invest.

“This investment underlines our commitment to reduce plastic waste with a true focus on education and recycling at the forefront,” Emeraude CEO Umar Rafique said. By guaranteeing that plastic trash is properly recycled into new goods, DGrade's innovative business model, together with Emeraude's technical knowledge and global reach, will help prevent plastic waste from entering our environment.”

For more than a decade, DGrade has worked to keep plastic out of landfills by recycling plastic bottles into Greenspun yarn, which is used to make sustainable uniforms, apparel, and goods. Through its Simply Bottles recycling effort, DGrade also helps to recover post-consumer plastic, such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), in the UAE. The initiative teaches and engages people in recycling through working with major events, schools, hotel chains, and other large corporate enterprises. Emeraude performs a similar initiative throughout Africa and the Indian subcontinent, educating schoolchildren about plastic usage, sorting plastic debris, and recycling.

“We're really happy to be teaming with Emeraude,” says Kris Barber, CEO of DGrade. Our cooperation gives DGrade with scalability and exposure to worldwide markets for our Greenspun brand, and we share a vision of pushing sustainability in plastics. It also helps DGrade break into a new market by providing recycled plastic to bottle-to-bottle manufacturers.”
