His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, issued Decree No. (24) of 2021 regulating the use of 3D printing in the building sector in Dubai.

The Dubai Municipality is in charge of overseeing the new Decree's implementation. The new regulation supports the emirate's strategic goal of adopting 3D printing technology in the construction of 25% of its structures by 2030.

The Decree also aims to promote Dubai as a regional and international hub for 3D printing technology. The new legislation aims to improve efficiencies in construction projects, increase the competitiveness of the local industry, reduce waste, and attract leading companies in the sector to Dubai as part of a larger plan to spur economic growth and promote the adoption of advanced technologies in the emirate.

Before obtaining additional permits from other authorities, any firm wishing to perform 3D printing activities in the industry must first register with Dubai Municipality and receive a licence. Real estate developers should also make sure that 3D printing initiatives are carried out by contractors who have been licenced by the Dubai Municipality to do so.

Dubai Municipality will promote the use of 3D printing in the construction sector in collaboration with government and non-government entities, according to the Decree. The Municipality will create a consolidated list of incentives and facilities provided by both government and non-government entities to encourage the use of 3D printing in the construction sector.

All decisions required to carry out this Decree will be issued by the Director General of Dubai Municipality. Any other legislation that may conflict with the requirements of this new Decree is nullified.

Decree No. (24) of 2021 will be published in the Official Gazette and will take effect on the day of issuance.
