Dubai is set to become home to the region’s 1st and largest solar carport for a sport’s facility.

The 2 MWp solar carport will be custom built for Sevens Stadium, a facility owned by the Emirates Group.

The stadium is known for hosting the world-famous annual Emirates Dubai Sevens as well as other international sporting and entertainment events throughout the year.

The project follows the signing of a long-term partnership between Emirates Group and Dubai based SirajPower.

It will consist the installation of 4,500 solar modules over an area of 10,551 square meter, producing 3.6 GWh of clean energy annually and offsetting over 1,496 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.

The Sevens Stadium features 8 floodlit sports fields, 6 cricket ovals, 4 netball courts, and 15,000 parking spaces.

It is the largest sports facility of its kind in the UAE, hosting 7,000-10,000 people each week during the winter season for community sports.

The facility is now being transformed into the region’s greenest sports arena and Dubai’s largest solar carport in a single location.

The complete scope of services for the solar carport which includes the design, installation, financing, long-term operation, and maintenance will be undertake by SirajPower.

Many sports facilities have invested a lot of effort to reduce their environmental impact on a global level, with the most sustainable venues being Kaohsiung in Taiwan, also called ‘World Games Stadium’, The Mercedes Benz Arena in Atlanta, and the recently newly built Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
