Automation and vertical farming are critical to a resilient regional food supply chain


During a visit to Madar Farms, a UAE-based vertical farming company pioneering sustainable agriculture through advanced technology adoption, Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, delivered this statement.

Technical specialists educated her on how new technology can respond quickly and efficiently to the increasing need for food in the region and beyond during her tour of Madar Farm's Abu Dhabi-based research and development centre. She learned about crop forecasting and other approaches that can assist achieve more sustainable agriculture throughout the year.

“The rapid use of advanced technologies we are seeing across the UAE's industrial value chain is hastening our transition to an innovation- and knowledge-based economy, making the UAE a more appealing business environment for investors and entrepreneurs around the world.”

Omar Suwain Al Suwaidi, MoIAT's Under-Secretary, and Ali Al Hashimi, Director of MoIAT's Department of Science and Technology Policies and Programs, joined Al Amiri.

“Agricultural production is one of the country's priority industries since it helps to build sustainable practises that use contemporary technologies to turn obstacles into opportunities,” Al Suwaidi added. The government is also aiming to create a favourable economic climate for both domestic and foreign investors.”

Madar Farms Co-Founder and CEO Abdulaziz Al Mulla welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology for supporting high-quality investment initiatives in the country.
