AMEA Power LLC and China's SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co Ltd (HHDC) have agreed to jointly develop solar, wind and green hydrogen projects in the Middle East and North Africa as part of a new partnership.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by AMEA Power's managing director Mohamed AlNowais and HHDC's deputy general manager Yu Miao during Expo 2020 in Dubai.

"This agreement is a great milestone for AMEA Power as we are expanding into green hydrogen production, which is a key component of decarbonisation strategies," AlNowais said in a statement published in March.

AMEA Power has about 2 GW of solar and wind projects in operation, under construction and in development. Last year, the Dubai-based clean power company switched on a 50-MW solar plant in Togo, a 50-MW wind project and a 50-MW solar site in Jordan.

Earlier this month, it unveiled progress with its 100-MW solar project in Tunisia as the North African country's government ratified the concession and power purchase agreements (PPA) for the construction of the plant in Kairouan.

The Chinese partner operates a portfolio of 27.3 GW in installed capacity and some 90% of it are green energy plants.
