Oman Opens Tender For Consultant for New Wind Projects

The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has issued a request for proposals (RfP) for technical and economic consultancy services for the development of new wind power projects in the sultanate.

The state-owned company, the single off-taker for independent power producers in the Arab nation, will select a consultant to conduct a feasibility study in 2 phases, it said on 25th July.

In the 1st phase, the winner in the tender will conduct a technical and economic feasibility study. The 2nd phase will involve providing technical consultancy services for the construction of the wind power plants after the necessary approvals are granted.

OPWP seeks to put about 2.66 GW of new solar and wind projects into operation by year 2027 in a bid to meet increasing power demand in the sultanate and diversify fuel sources for electricity generation.

The strategy includes plans for several wind farms. A 100 MW wind project is to be built next to the existing 49.4 MW Dhofar I Wind IPP in the south which was Oman's 1st wind park to be connected to the grid.

2 more wind projects with a combined capacity of 360 MW are planned for the region of Ad Duqm. The Duqm Wind IPP with a planned output of 200 MW is expected to go online in the 3rd quarter of 2025 while the Duqm II Wind IPP of at least 160 MW is projected to commence operation in 2027.
