Chinese solar inverter maker Sungrow Power Supply Co Ltd said on 6th January that it will supply inverters for an 814-MW alternating current (AC) photovoltaic (PV) project in Qatar.

The company was awarded the contract by Samsung C&T Corp’s Engineering and Construction Group. The deal was signed recently and will see Sungrow deliver its MV-integrated 1500V string inverter SG320HX for the project, which is expected to be completed by year 2024.

The project will be Qatar’s 2nd solar power plant. According to the announcement, it will generate 1,800 GWh a year, offsetting 900,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

"Qatar has become an important country in the global solar energy development and an important part of Sungrow's business in the Middle East,” commented Sungrow senior vice president James Wu.

Qatar inaugurated its 1st large-scale solar park, the 800-MWp Al Kharsaah complex, in October 2022. In August 2022, state-owned petroleum company QatarEnergy selected Samsung C&T to build an 875-MW solar duo in 2 industrial cities in the Gulf state.
