Renewable Energy To In The UAE As Solar Power Usage Rises

The use of renewable energy will rise significantly in the UAE and the Middle East in the near future.

Over the next several years, the UAE and the Middle East's renewable energy market is expected to increase significantly, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

It stated that, although starting from a low base, renewable generation is expected to increase by about 14% year between 2025 and 2027, increasing its proportion from 5% to 7%.

According to the research, solar PV is driving expansion, with its proportion of renewable power rising from about 55% to nearly 70% by 2027.

The UAE had notable increases in solar PV generation, which accounted for most of the region's solar growth, with an average annual growth of 23% for solar in 2025–2027, according to an IEA report.

Additionally, it stated that "In 2024, nuclear also played a more prominent role in power generation, up 20% year-over-year, led by the UAE."

This keeps increasing nuclear power's contribution to a sustainable and varied energy mix.

According to the report, gas-fired generation, the region's main source of electricity, increased by 2.9% in 2024 and is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 5.3% in 2025–2027 as more fuel switching from oil to gas occurs in accordance with government policies. Its share of the electricity mix will increase from 68% to 73%.
