Joint venture Egypt-UAE wins tender for Ivory Coast solar projects at 0.0310 EUR/kWh

Infinity Power placed successful bids of €0.03310 ($0.039)/kWh and €0.03213/kWh for a pair of solar projects amounting to 80 MW, establishing the lowest rates achieved by an independent power producer in West and Central Africa.

A collaboration between Egypt's Infinity and Abu Dhabi's Masdar, has secured two solar initiatives in Ivory Coast.

The firm will create, fund, construct, and manage two solar facilities that are connected to the ground, boasting a total capacity of 80 MW, following its success in an international procurement process.

The successful bids were recorded at €0.03310/kWh for the location in Laboa and €0.03213/kWh for a site in Touba. A statement from the International Finance Corp. indicated that these rates represent a new low for solar independent power producer tariffs in West and Central Africa.

The government of Ivory Coast facilitated the bidding process via the Scaling Solar Program of the World Bank Group, which utilizes different financial instruments from the World Bank Group. This initiative was backed by a financial contribution from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The project construction is anticipated to kick off by March 2026, with an expected completion date before the end of the following year. Collectively, the two solar plants are projected to provide clean electricity to over 400,000 households, schools, hospitals, and businesses located in remote regions of the Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast's Energy Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly stated that these projects will boost production capacity, enhance the nation's energy resilience, and generate local employment and investment opportunities. “These initiatives mark an important advancement in fulfilling our climate obligations by 2030,” the minister concluded.

Infinity Power's two solar initiatives are the most recent in a growing number of large-scale solar energy facilities being developed in the Ivory Coast.
