Dubai and Tanzania Set to Seal Landmark Trade Agreements

Dubai and Tanzania are moving closer to finalizing two landmark trade deals — a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT). The agreements, discussed during President’s recent meetings with UAE leaders in Dubai, are expected to boost investment flows, infrastructure development, and market access between the two nations. Officials say the deals will provide a framework for long term cooperation in energy, logistics, and manufacturing.

Alongside the trade pacts, new connectivity initiatives are being rolled out to strengthen economic ties. Emirates Airline is exploring expanded routes to Tanzania, including Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar, while Gulftainer’s GT Lines will launch the Khorfakkan–Dar es Salaam Express (KTX) shipping service in August 2026. The maritime link promises a nine day transit time, directly connecting East Africa with Gulf and Asian markets.

Trade between the UAE and Tanzania has already doubled in recent years, reaching $2.1 billion in 2024. With CEPA and BIT expected to be signed later this year, analysts predict Tanzania will solidify its role as a regional trade hub, while Dubai cements its position as a gateway for African markets. The agreements are seen as a strategic step toward diversifying Tanzania’s economy and deepening Gulf–Africa partnerships.
