A new bioplastics business located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been formed by Global Biopolymers and SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment.

Emirates Biotech, a recently established firm based in Dubai, stated that its primary objective will be to produce and distribute polylactic acid (PLA) biopolymers throughout the Middle East, Africa, and India.

Applications for PLA include electronics, appliances, packaging, fibres, 3D printing, and packaging.

Emirates Biotech announced on July 22 that the new business, formerly known as Gulf Biopolymers Industries, intended to construct a PLA production plant in the United Arab Emirates.

Shaikh Suhail Ali Saeed Rashed Al-Maktoum of SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment states that by investing in PLA bioplastics, we are proactively building a more environmentally conscious society for future generations in line with the UAE's Green Agenda 2030 objective.

Emirates Biotech states that it hopes to start up for business in early 2025 and start construction on its first PLA production facility in the UAE before 2026.
