Turkey's Akfa Contracting has been awarded a $90m contract to undertake MEP works on a mixed-use housing project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Akfa will carry out all MEP tasks related to package two of the Rayadah Housing Complex, which forms part of the Obhur Al Janoubia Project being developed by RIC.

The deal was granted by another Turkish firm, MAPA, which is the scheme's main contractor.

The Obhur Al Janoubia Project is considered one of the biggest residential projects which the Public Pension Agency (PPA) works on establishing in the north of Jeddah at a total area of 2.5m2.

It aims at meeting over 10% of the needs of the real estate market in terms of the high-quality residential units within the next 10 years.

Ali Kemal Pekkendir, the Middle East general manager of Akfa Holding, said: "With a good start of entering the Saudi Arabia construction market by executing the MEP Works of King Khalid International Airport Expansion Terminal 5, and being awarded for MEP Works for Al Qassim Hospital, Akfa Contracting continues its success in Saudi Arabia."
