Al Masaood to spend Dh200 million in expansion

The Abu Dhabi based automobile distributor to open shows rooms in Al Sila, Al Wagan, Al Ghayati

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi-based Al Masaood Automobiles is planning to invest more than Dh200 million as part of its expansions plans in the Emirate to open more showrooms.

The distributors of Nissan, Renault and Infiniti brand of vehicles in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain will open showrooms in Al Sila, Al Wagan, and Al Ghayati in the next three years.

The idea behind opening showrooms in the remote parts is to cater to the needs of large numbers of Emiratis, Sayed Humayun Alam, General Manager of Al Masaood Automobiles told Gulf News.

He said there are no other automobile showrooms in those areas and they will be the first one to set up business.

“We are expecting a potential growth and population growth. These are small townships and there is no other facility. We will be the first one to reach these areas,” said Alam.

He said they are going to be full fledged showrooms with sales for cars, part facilities and service.

“We don’t want customers from Al Sila to come all the way to Abu Dhabi for service.”

The construction work on Al Sila showroom will begin this year. The investment is being made on buying land, construction and on interiors of the showroom, he said.

Al Sila is about 450 kilometres from Abu Dhabi where as Al Wagan is 90 kilometres from Al Ain and Al Ghayati is about 250 kilometres from Abu Dhabi. The total population living in these towns is believed to be more than 15,000.

On Abu Dhabi automobile market, he said it is unique and stable.

“There are no fluctuations like other markets. We depend on local sales and we have good relationships with government departments and have a strong database with Emiratis. There is a huge potential in Abu Dhabi.”

According to a report by Emirates NBD, the UAE is the second largest automotive market in the GCC after Saudi Arabia. It relies heavily on imports, with virtually the entire supply of car and light vehicles being imported,

The country’s automotive retail sector grew by 6.5% year on year in H1 2014. The UAE’s strong economic growth, solid household spending and increased access to vehicle financing are set to be the drivers for the automotive industry over the coming years.

The Abu Dhabi’s Government initiative to develop ‘The Auto City’ in the Mussafah area will create a cluster of advanced workshops and service centers, attracting investment in automotive manufacturing and spare part logistics, Emirates NBD said in its report.
