Construction works on the Lebanon Medical City have been launched by Bodom Group in Akkar, which will be completed in two years.

Abdel Rahim El Bodom, Chairman, said: “We were intending to open a mall, but after conducting a market study, we found it more feasible to change the plan and build a hospital instead.”

“There is a shortage of hospitals that offer high quality services in the Akkar region and ours will be built with high standards,” said El Bodom.

The land plot is 73,000 square meters and the built-up area of the hospital is 30,000 m2. Investment in the project is expected to reach $50 million. “We are still searching for investors that can equity fund the project.” El Bodom said that they are facing difficulty in obtaining loans from banks.

The medical city will comprise a hospital that will host 210 beds. It will also include a nursing institution and a hospitality vocational institute specialized in training staff on hospital food. It will employ around 600.

Bodom Group is in the process of obtaining the license for the hospital from the Ministry of Public Health. A medical management company will manage it, when it is completed. Bodom Construction is the company contracting the project.

Bodom Group has several affiliates, including a textile factory, a cosmetics factory in Egypt, and a trading company for sport gadgets.
