Double delight in store for UAE Apple fans

Tomorrow is the big day which Apple Inc and its fans have been waiting for. The opening of two Apple Stores in the UAE on a single day is kind of historic because the last - and only - time such an event happened was way back on May 19, 2001, when the first two Apple Stores were opened in the United States in Tyson's Corner, Virginia, and Glendale, California.

In a media sneak peek on Tuesday, the world's largest technology company by assets flaunted its new Apple Stores at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates and Abu Dhabi's Yas Mall, guaranteeing consumers its complete portfolio - including the Apple Watch - and the company's signature service offered all over the world.

From rotating main doors to self-watering trees, Apple made sure it pulled out all the stops in unveiling Store Nos 465 and 466, which boast 150 employees who speak 40 languages and represent more than 30 nationalities, ready to provide Apple's signature customer service.

"It was important to us that we open in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on the same day," Wendy Beckman, Apple's senior market director for Europe and the Middle East, said in front of the media throng. "They're both incredible cities, each for their own reasons, and we expect both will be very popular with residents and tourists alike."

"None of our stores is great until our people fill them in; we worked really hard and handpicked the team," Beckman said, adding that some of the staff have trained in Apple Stores throughout Europe or in Cupertino, while some have been with the company for several years.

The Dubai Apple Store features 16-foot-tall pivoting glass doors, a first for any of its outlets. But perhaps the most inviting design element of the store is the "Genius Grove", an area at the centre that has two Genius Bars surrounded by trees that have their own watering systems below.

Towards the end of the store is a huge video wall, which behind it has a private area for conducting meetings, events and ladies-only sessions.
